Meet the scientists

Dr. Peter Eftimov, biologist

Dr. Peter Eftimov graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 2006 at the University of Forestry. Immediately after that he started working at the Animo Clinic and later at the Central Veterinary Clinic where he worked until 2011. Specializing in emergency medicine and resuscitation, in 2010 he attended a course in reproductive medicine at the Minitub headquarters in Munich. In 2012 he graduated with a degree in Molecular Biology from Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". In May 2017 he obtained a PhD in Molecular Biology, and since October 2018 he is teaching embryology at the Faculty of Biology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". He has interests in regenerative medicine (mesenchymal stem cell transplantation), exotic pet therapy and wildlife therapy.

Engineer-physicist Stoil Ivanov holds a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Physics from the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski". In 2017 he completed his Master's Degree in Aerospace Engineering and Communication with the subject "Stabilization and Analysis of the Attitude of a Constellation of Small Satellites". This topic ignites further his interest in the field of orbital dynamics, design of orbits and systems for propulsion of spacecraft. Since 2018 Stoil Ivanov is a PhD student in the Department of Radiophysics and Electronics at the Faculty of Physics at Sofia University and is working on his dissertation on "Electrothermal Plasma Thruster for Small Satellites". He is part of the team implementing the project "Electrothermal Microwave Plasma Thruster for Bulgarian Nano-Satellites". Stoil Ivanov is co-founder of the Association "SAT-1 Initiative" (sat-1.com), which seeks to support the aerospace sector in Bulgaria through the implementation of practical projects and the dissemination of the acquired experience and knowledge among young Bulgarian scientists with an interest in the field. He was Science Camp 2018 program's content-designer and is a mentor of the Space Camp alumni in Bulgaria.

Veronika Koleva, chemist

Veronica Koleva graduated with a degree in Chemistry from Sofia University, “St Kliment Ohridski”, specializing in Physicochemistry. Her scientific interests are focused on Hydrogen storage materials and their application. She is a 2017 finalist at the FameLab Contest, where she presents the topic "Gecko superpowers". In her spare time, she has been involved in chemical demonstrations, being part of “Bomb squad" events, where she takes part in the Sofia Science Festival every year and has a number of appearances in schools in Sofia and the country. She also has classes at the “University for Children” Foundation, where he teaches chemistry to students in grades 5 through 9. At the moment she is a teacher in a private elementary school “Svetlina”, and continues her education on “Material Sciences” in Sofia University “St Kliment Ohridski”.

Tatyana Ivanova is in 11th grade in Foreign Languages High School "Geo Milev", Dobrich city, Bulgaria. She is a drummer, a poetess as well as the first president of Interact Club Dobrich and a competitor in BEST. She has many awards for creative writing from national and international competitions and has been a volunteer at the Bulgarian Red Cross for a year. In 2018 Tatyana applies for a scholarship for Space Camp Turkey. After many obstacles she finally has the chance to attend it. After her journey there, she is determined she wants to become the First Bulgarian Woman in Space. In 10th grade she becomes a student space ambassador for "The Mars Generation" foundation, also attends a MasterClass in Particle Physics and a 16-day Astronomy and Astrophysics camp. Due to her efforts she finally goes to the Advanced Space Academy in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. Now she is preparing herself to be an outstanding candidate for university and for an astronaut selection. Make the impossible - possible!
